Beat the Heat at J. KING’S: The Hotter the Better

Summers in Maryland are exasperating. The weather is damp and humid which can sometimes take a toll on our bodies. The obvious short-term solution for summer heat is to revitalize with refreshing frozen treats, but would you believe us if we said that hot, spicy food can help to cool down your body? We have scientific proof!
Doctors have confirmed that eating hot, spicy food induces perspiration and cools off the body by increasing the blood circulation without raising your body temperature. Downing a bowl of steaming hot soup or suffering from the bite of a hot chili pepper might not seem like the most intuitive way to spend a hot Maryland summer day, but hot and spicy-temperature foods will definitely help alleviate the body’s internal heat.
Looking to satisfy your culinary appetite and break a spicy sweat? Take the heat with our buffalo wings, glazed in J. KING’S Hot Sauce. An order of 12 of these bad boys will have you crying for multiple, multiple reasons. And then there's always a cool, cold beverage to top it off.
Or, are you ready to satiate your seafood cravings? We nominate the J. KING’S steamed mussels. The heaping portion of Prince Edward Island Mussels, sautéed in white wine and a healthy dose of garlic butter sauce won’t necessarily make you cry, but we can guarantee that you’ll be licking the bowl by the end of meal.

Essence of Minimalism: The Birth of the Softshell Crab

J. KING’S takes pride in becoming a more sustainable establishment. Utilization of seasonal ingredients not only eases environmental damage, but also captures the taste of the ingredient at its fullest potential.

During the summer seasons, our restaurant is fortunate enough to have access to the bay’s finest catch of softshell crabs. The process of the softshell occurs when the blue crab releases is outer layer and retains its softer inner shell.

We believe the best way to pay homage to our seasonal delicacy is to let the blue crab truly shine. The J. KING’S chefs lightly flour the softshell and then sauté the delicate crustacean.

What better way to spotlight the key components of the blue softshell crab then to stack it under a sandwich? J. KING’S takes pride in our minimalistic approach to fresh local ingredients and our dedication to traditional American cuisine. This is the blue crab state.

Expect no less than perfection at J. KING’S.
